Council ok's plan for consultant committee

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - La Crosse's City Council approves establishing a committee  to research what duties a consultant would perform for the city.

The vote comes after Tuesday's decision by the Committee of the Whole to hold off spending $125,000 for a consultant.

At Thursday's meeting, the council voted unanimously to research exactly what services the consultant would provide. An amendment to the proposal, also passed by the council, has Mayor Matt Harter and Council President Audrey Kader selecting three members of the council for the committee.

The committee would review proposals and bring back the information to the full council for a vote.

Councilman Doug Happel hopes the vote moves the city closer to hiring a consultant.  "We are in the process of dealing with the 2013 budget already. So if there's going to be any effect in 2013, time is of the essence."
