Onalaska Hosts Special Olympians

Posted:

Onalaska, WI (WXOW)-- Special Olympics Wisconsin hosted an outdoor sports tournament in Onalaska Saturday. Hundreds of athletes from around the state participated in the tournament.

The Special Olympians took part in tennis, softball and bocce games. The winners advance to the state tournament in Eau Claire later this summer.

But, for most of the competitors, the day is about more than winning.

"The best part of this event is the passion and sportsmanship that both come through with these athletes," said Don Wigington, the regional sports director for Special Olympics Wisconsin. "They're here to compete, they want to win, but they also understand to be good sports as well."

Special Olympics Wisconsin is always looking for volunteers. To help out, you can check out the website at SpecialOlympicsWisconsin.org.
