Big year for Youth Outdoor Fest

Posted:

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - About 2500 people came to the 3rd annual Youth Outdoor Fest at Pettibone Park July 14.

Organizers say it was their biggest year.

The festival featured a range of outdoor activities like archery, boating and fishing. The event was sponsored by the La Crosse Parks and Recreation Department.

Officials say they want to get kids interested in outdoor activity.

"We're just getting kids outdoors, and trying to find a niche that they enjoy," said Dave Erickson, Fishing Coordinator for La Crosse Parks & Recreation. "And maybe they'll take it up and start doing more things outside, And finding that things aren't that expensive to do either."

Thirty vendors were on site giving demonstrations about outdoor activities like canoeing.

Guests also scored a free lunch.
