TOWN OF PORTLAND, Wisconsin (WXOW) – A woman was killed in a fiery, single car crash Sunday morning in the Township of Portland.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, 42-year old Wendy Downing was driving alone on Highway 27 at 2:45 a.m.
Police say she lost control of her vehicle rounding a curve.
The vehicle flipped over and soon caught fire with Downing inside.
A passerby who observed the incident tried to remove her from the burning car, but was unsuccessful.
Downing was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
