Low Groundwater Levels

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW)- Since last August, La Crosse has seen a deficit of nearly 6 inches of rain. And we're not alone. Nearly 80% of the continental United States is experiencing abnormally dry weather.

In our area, this has affected crops and waterways. Now, US Geological Survey measurements show ground water levels below, to much below normal across the state. In La Crosse, groundwater is used to meet agricultural, industrial and commercial needs. It is also the source of our drinking water.

Seasonal drought outlooks predict lessening drought across most of Wisconsin through September. Aquifers should start to recharge with more normal rainfall.
