Wausau, WISCONSIN (WXOW)  A UW-La Crosse star has quickly earned himself a spot among the Northwoods League elite.

Brooks Braga was recently named to the Northwoods League South Division all-star team.

Quite an accomplishment for a guy who began the season on a temporary contract with the Wisconsin Woodchucks.

In a league the features some of the top division one college talent the UW-L senior has had no problems showing he belongs.

In fact, he leads the NWL in runs scored.

"It's pretty awesome because I came in here as a temp player. It was just a matter of working my tail off and not taking anything for granted. I always try to come out and better myself everyday. Luckily, it paid off for me," Braga said.

"I've had a great opportunity with the Woodchucks. They've helped me out a lot and I couldn't of asked for anything more. I really don't think it's going to compare playing in the Northwoods League all star game. With the talent I'm going to be around it's going to be humbling. It's going to be a great experience."

Braga played a key role in leading UW-Lto the WIAC title this past season.

He's hitting .309 for the Woodchucks this summer and leading the team in hits.
