VIROQUA, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The search for two escaped inmates from Jackson County moved south into Vernon County on Friday.
Vernon County Sheriff John Spears tells News 19 that the department received an anonymous tip around 12:30 that someone spotted the black Chrysler Concorde police believe the inmates stole Wednesday night or Thursday morning in Monroe County.
A short time later, Sheriff Spears says his department received another call from a man who says he saw James Misleveck.
The sheriff says his office, in coordination with Hillsboro police, state patrol and surrounding county officers, searched the area and surrounding townships.
While they did not find the men or the black Concorde, Sheriff Spears says a K-9 unit and patrol will remain in the area at least over night.
Sheriff Spears suggests that while he does not feel there's an immediate threat to the public, people should use common sense and lock their homes and cars.
Anyone who sees either Misleveck, James Newman, or the stolen black Concorde is asked to contact law enforcement.
