Hovde discusses campaign attack ads

MADISON, Wisconsin (WXOW) - A new battle is brewing in the race for the republican nomination for senate.

Last week, republican senate candidate Tommy Thompson sent out a letter accusing opponent Eric Hovde of using attack ads to try and get ahead in the race. The two men are leading in the polls among the candidates.

We talked with Hovde Monday during a stop in Wausau about his ads.

"I finally respond to him and then he accuses me of attacking. Then, the same day, he launches that and puts that letter out and he comes out with another television attack ad and a radio attack ad," Hovde said of his opponent, Thompson.

Two other candidates are also vying for the Republican nomination, Mark Neumann and Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald.

The winner of the August 14th republican primary will go on to face Democrat Tammy Baldwin in the November general election.
