Police cancel daily briefing on missing Iowa girls

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Investigators have decided to cancel a daily briefing to update the public on the search for two missing Iowa cousins.

Black Hawk County Chief Deputy Rick Abben said Tuesday that investigators leading the search for 10-year-old Lyric Cook and 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins will provide any updates from now on directly to the media through e-mail or fax.

Abben has been holding the news briefings in Evansdale, and he says the decision to cancel them was made because he has offered very little new information in several days. He says the decision does not mean investigators are in any way scaling back the search for the girls.

He says investigators from local agencies, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the FBI continue to look for the cousins.
