Justice Department files criminal complaint against escapees

MADISON, Wisconsin (WXOW) - A federal criminal complaint is filed against the two men who escaped from the Black River Falls Correctional Center last week.

US Attorney for Western Wisconsin John W. Vaudreuil announced that James Newman and James Misleveck are charged with unlawful possession of a shotgun as convicted felons.

In a news release, Vaudreuil stated, "The filing of this charge, and the quick and safe arrest in Florida, is exactly the type of cooperation between federal, state, and local law enforcement across the country that is needed to stop violent criminals."

The release also quotes Jackson County District Attorney Gerald Fox, "I'm very thankful for the successful cooperation between local, state, and federal authorities, and my office will be filing additional criminal charges."

Both Newman and Misleveck are in the Broward County Jail awaiting extradition back to Wisconsin to face these charges.
