McCarthy anxious for training camp

Green Bay, WISCONSIN (WXOW)  Seven Packers failed their physicals Wednesday, including starting linebacker Desmond Bishop.

The Journal-Sentinel reporting that Bishop's injury was listed as a non-football injury.

Those players will be placed on the physically unable to perform list until their cleared for practice.

Training camp starts Thursday on the practice field, a day Mike McCarthy has been looking forward to so much he decided to spend his off time this summer in Green Bay.

"I'm anxious. I've stayed in Green Bay the whole summer. This is probably the most prepared I've been for training camp. I feel that way. I haven't left. being here in Green Bay here the whole summer, you can feel the excitement building. I felt it a lot more just being here," Mc Carthy said during his pre-training camp news conference Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the coach admits he has some concerns with this years rookie crop.

Last year's rookies didn't have any OTA's or mini-camp because of the lockout.

So they came in with a sense of urgency, something he'd like this year's rookies to have too.

"It's a total different feel to training camp this year and quite frankly, I'm concerned. My recollection of the rookie class coming in here last year, you had a group sitting in here on pins and needles. They hadn't had a chance to get into the playbook during the off season. They were so anxious, so ambitious. They knew their time clock was a lot smaller than other years. I thought it brought a lot of enthusiasm and urgency to our training camp last year. This year's rookie class came in here and hit the field like 'this isn't so hard, this is pro ball maybe it isn't as tough as I thought it would be.' That will not be the case when we hit the field tomorrow."
