Green Bay, WISCONSIN Speculation becomes reality on the first practice day of training camp.
The long talked about move of Charles Woodson to safety has occurred, but how different will it really be for the 15 year veteran?
The short answer, not too much.
Woodson replaces Nick Collins and Charlie Peprah in the base 3-4 defense opposite Morgan Burnett.
That is something he has done before.
It just may be a bit more now.
But when the team plays 5 or 6 defensive backs, which they do more often than playing base, Woodson will return to his customary spot in the slot, where he can attack the quarterback as well as defend receivers.
"Number one throughout his career he's been a play maker no matter where he's played. We want him closer to the line to be able to make those plays in our defense. That's really part of the thinking when we set our defense. He plays the game like a quarterback with great instincts from the defensive side," said Packers head coach Mike McCarthy.
Jarrett Bush will play the cornerback spot in the base defense with Woodson now at safety.
