UW-Whitewater student found dead in quarry

WHITEWATER (WKOW) -- Investigators in Walworth County are investigating the death of a UW-Whitewater student who was found dead at a limestone quarry.

The Walworth County Sheriff's Department says the body of 21-year-old Benjamin Fuder was found just before 7 a.m. Sunday at Whitewater Limestone Quarry, just south of Whitewater. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say Fuder was reported missing Saturday night. He was last seen in the downtown area around 12:30 Saturday morning.

Sheriff David Graves says authorities do not suspect foul play at this time, but they are still investigating.

UW-Whitewater officials said their thoughts are with Benjamin's family and friends. The university said its Health and Counseling Services will be available to help anyone struggling with the news of Fuder's death.

It's the second time in a little more than a year that a UW-Whitewater student has been found dead in the quarry. Last May, 20-year-old Mark Wegener was found there after an apparent fall.
