In-person absentee voting starts Monday

Posted:

MADISON, Wisconsin (WXOW) -- In-person absentee voting begins statewide Monday for Wisconsin's primary, now just a little more than two weeks away.

The state Government Accountability Board says it will be the first time Wisconsin's partisan primaries have been held in August since 1946. The usual September primary was moved to Aug. 14 this year so the state can comply with a federal law aimed at giving military and overseas voters enough time to cast their absentee ballots.

In this spring's recall primaries, voters could choose between parties for each race. But, this time, voters can select candidates in only one party. The State Journal reports GAB director Kevin Kennedy considers confusion about crossover voting one of the biggest issues poll workers face during partisan primaries.
