Walker touts cellphones for soldiers program

Gov. Scott Walker is urging people to donate old cellphones to a program that recycles them and uses the money to pay for calling cards that military personnel serving overseas can use.

AT&T Wisconsin announced at a Walker news conference Tuesday that it was donating 600 pre-paid calling cards to Wisconsin National Guard and reserve units to help them stay in touch with family and loved ones while deployed.

Each card comes with 100 minutes of calling time.

Used cellphones can be donated to the "Cell Phones for Soldiers" program at any AT&T store, in drop boxes in the state Capitol Rotunda, and other designated locations listed at the website www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com . Phones can also be mailed in.
