Picnic honors local law enforcement

Posted:

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Local police officers got a well deserved thank you from the community tonight.

The La Crosse Area Law Enforcement Chaplaincy hosted it's 12th annual Law Enforcement Appreciation picnic this evening.

It's an opportunity for the community to interact with police and show their support.

Along with brats and burgers, kids enjoyed games at the Copeland Park shelter.

Over 80 area businesses make the event possible through their donations.

"They serve, they protect, they keep our streets safe and we enjoy peace and safety because of their work," said Head Chaplain Mark Clements. "But the fact that not many people were thanking them in an organized fashion, that's why we've been doing it all these years."

And in honor of the event, Mayor Matt Harter proclaimed August 9th as "Law Enforcement Appreciation Day" in La Crosse.
