KASSON, Minn. (KTTC) -- Political candidates didn't let an afternoon shower rain on their parade in Kasson on Sunday. The countdown is on till the polls open on Tuesday for the Primary Election. It's a battle between State Senator Mike Parry and Allen Quist for the First Congressional District.
If you're looking for a family man in office, Allen Quist says he's your guy. Raising 10 of his own children, while running a farm near St. Peter and teaching at Bethany Lutheran College it's no surprise that multi--tasking is a no-brainer for him.
"I have thee conviction, the leadership ability to make a difference, I have a much firmer policy on the matter of balancing the budget," explained Quist.
Quist is particularly focused on finances and how to balance the budget within the next 5-years.
"There's this huge debt. For example: This year 20-cents for every dollar we collect is going for interest on the debt. In 2-years that is going to be 25-cents and in 3-years that will be 30-cents we can't do this, we have to change direction. We have to adopt a sound, financial path," stated Quist.
He said he had given up his political aspirations to run for office, but is now seeing things in a different light. Quist is looking to the future of the nation and wants his voice to help ensure his 38 grandchildren have opportunities and freedom. Finances isn't Quist's only issue. He said there's more to making sure the American dream lives on.
"Never improved anything by having the government take it over and I think we need to pull back, look at free market solutions on healthcare. I also think we need to do a lot to take the shackle off of business," said Quist.
A vision, he hopes you'll support and vote for.
