U.S. Senators serve six year terms as apposed to a two year term in the House.
It is known as a continuing body.
Wisconsin is currently represented by Republican Ron Johnson and Democrat Herb Kohl.
They split time between Wisconsin and Washington D.C.
They serve on various committees, review bills and vote on the creation of new laws and spending.
According to the U.S. Senate website, every U.S. Senator has the same salary.
In 2009, it was $174,000 a year.
To run for Senate, the Constitution mandates a candidate must be at least 30 years old, be a U.S. citizen for nine years and be a resident of the state.
