Fire at Xcel Energy Power Plant

La Crosse, WI (WXOW) - The La Crosse Fire Department is investigating an early morning fire at the Xcel Energy Power Plant on Bainbridge Street on French Island.

Firefighters say they responded to the plant around 2:20 Wednesday morning for a report of a fire in the garbage sorting area.

When they arrived heavy smoke was coming from the plant.

The fire was quickly extinguished.

No one was injured and damage was minor.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
