Melons recalled for possible Listeria contamination

Posted:

Undated (WXOW) - A company called Burch Farms is recalling every cantaloupe and honeydew melon it grew this year, because of possible listeria contamination.

The Food and Drug Administration found listeria on a melon at the company's North Carolina packing facility.

The melons were sold to distributors in 18 states along the East Coast and in the Midwest but may have been resold in other states.

Consumers can identify the affected cantaloupes by stickers that say either Burch Farms or Cottle Strawberry on them.

Honeydew melons don't have a sticker, so those concerned must call the store where they bought them and ask where the melons came from.

The FDA says it doesn't know of anyone getting sick from eating these products.
