La Crosse, WI (WXOW)-- Friday night, in front of a Crowd of more than 2600 fans, the La Crosse Loggers completed a task 10 years in the making: winning the Northwoods League title.
But long before the team amassed a record 49 wins, owner Dan Kapanke knew the 2012 roster was something special.
"They were peaking at the right time and they would not be denied," Kapanke said. "And you just had that feeling that, this is a special team that's going to carry themselves to the championship, which they did."
Kapanke says it's not just talented players and coaches that lead to the successful season, but also the dedication of the fans.
"The players feed off these fans," Kapanke said. "There was a special electricity in the stands during the playoffs and they want to do well because the fans support us so much."
And now with the Northwoods League title in the bag, Kapanke says the team is already working to build on the momentum.
"It took us ten years to get what we accomplished last night, and so, it's not easy," Kapanke said. "We have a big roster turnover in the Northwoods League so we'll be look at 20 new players next year."
Kapanke says this weekend is for celebration, and the work for the 2013 season begins Monday.
