LA CROSSE, WISCONSIN (WXOW) – Classes began Wednesday at Western Technical College.
"It never gets old seeing the new students come in," said Western's President, Dr. Lee Rasch.
To mark the start of the year, members of student government, like Vice President Jamie Nordstrom, were stationed around campus to provide information to freshmen and other students.
Nordstrom said he remembers his first year at Western, and thus tries to share some tips with the new arrivals.
"It's scary at first but after the first couple of hours it gets so much easier," he said. "I always tell everybody to use a planner, so you can plan out your day. It makes it so much easier for you and makes for a much smoother transition (to college)."
Rasch also held his annual ice cream social in the school's courtyard.
The President said he likes interacting with students and sharing with them that he, too started at a two-year college.
"When I am part of these orientation sessions with new students, I try to give them that vision," he said. "This is the start of something that could be a very profound direction in their future."
"Only they know exactly where it will lead," Rasch added, "but it could all be starting right here, today."
