Stratman Appeals Job Termination

Posted:

La Crosse, WI (WXOW)-- A former La Crosse County Sheriff's Deputy is looking to overturn her firing from the department.

Authorities originally charged Trisha Stratman with negligent homicide in a car crash that resulted in the death of a Holmen teen in July 2010.

Stratman was responding to an emergency call to assist another officer at a bar fight in Holmen at the time of the crash.

In November of last year, a jury acquitted Stratman, but she had already been terminated from the Sheriff's Department following an internal investigation into the crash.  Sheriff Steve Helgeson wrote in a report stating, "I could not ignore the fact that as a result of your misconduct, a young boy lost his life."

The appeal hearing began Thursday. It is closed to the public and La Crosse County administrator, Steve O'Malley declined to provide specifics in the case. He says he expects testimony from both sides to last about two days.
