La Crosse, WI (WXOW)-- Nearly 600 kids have new back to school clothes, thanks to The Salvation Army's "Steppin' Back to School" program.
Friday, families were able to pick up the new items. Each child got a new shirt, pair of jeans and pair of shoes. All the items were donated by businesses and individuals in the community.
"I've got children of my own and I see the pressure that they're under to wear name-brand clothing, and a lot of people can't afford that," said Jeff Hoch, the volunteer coordinator at The Salvation Army. "So, I think that's one reason The Salvation Army started this program."
And in addition to the sponsors who provided the clothes, volunteers spent the day distributing the clothes to the families.
