LA CROSSE, WI (WXOW)—Forest Hills Golf Course in La Crosse will get a new clubhouse.
Gar Amunson, La Crosse Parks Superintendent said the current club house is old, too big and costs a lot of money to run.
He said it costs tax payers $24,000 a year just to heat and cool the club house.
The plan is to build a smaller club house in it's place.
The city hopes the have the new club house up and running in two to four years.
Amunson said the current club house was built and expanded in a time where people were holding a lot more banquets.
He said there just isn't a need for such a large space any more.
While Amunson recognizes the old club house has sentimental value for some people, he said the new building is long overdue.
"We want to look ahead," Amunson said. "We don't want to look back. It won't be the country club any more, it's not the country club, it will never be back so we're going to look forward because with the assistance of Kemper this golf course is looking very good and making money for the city."
It will cost around $80,000 to demolish the old club house; demolition is scheduled for October.
No cost estimate yet for the replacement.
