WINONA, Minn. (AP) -- A Winona special education teacher accused of slapping a student has resigned.
The Winona Daily News reports that the Winona Area Public Schools Board accepted Theresa Kersting's resignation on Tuesday.
The board approved an agreement that puts Kersting on paid leave through 2012, and prevents her from getting another job with the district.
Kersting, 50, pleaded guilty earlier this month to misdemeanor assault and was placed on a year of probation.
A criminal complaint in the case said Kersting slapped a 19-year-old male student in early April after he grabbed her glasses and threw them on the floor. A classroom aide reported the incident.
