Vue to Stand Trial in Connection with Witness Beating

Posted:

La Crosse, WI (WXOW)-- A man accused of beating a witness in connection with the Sara Hougom homicide will face trial.

The witness was beaten in jail, and it was captured by a jail surveillance camera. That witness testified at a preliminary hearing for Pao Choua Vue, who is charged in connection with the Hougom shooting. Vue pleaded guilty earlier this month, and is awaiting sentencing.

Prosecutors say Vue's cousin, also named Pao Choua Vue and another man, Houaka Yang, beat the witness. The witness suffered cuts and bruises.

Vue and Yang are charged with felony battery by prisoners.

At Tuesday's preliminary hearing, the sheriff's deputy who responded to the call, Jordan Stratman, said Vue admitted hitting the witness. Stratman also testified that Vue implicated Houaka Yang in the beating.

Yang, who is also charged with battery by prisoners as party to the crime, waived his preliminary hearing and will also face trial.
