Eau Claire (WQOW) - The Wisconsin State Patrol says its crackdown on drunk driving is paying off.
The national "Drive sober or get pulled over" campaign kicked off earlier this month. Through Labor Day, more troopers will be out on the roads.
"Over 17,000 traffic stops in the first ten days...they've resulted in 15 drunk drivers being taken off the road. For us, that's like saving 15 lives so it's a very pointed effort by all the state troopers out there. We're going to continue this effort right through the holiday weekend," said Wisconsin State Patrol Lieutenant Jeff Lorentz.
The state patrol says last year in Wisconsin, alcohol-related crashes led to 225 deaths and injured almost 3,000 people.
