Before closing Z's Cheese Shoppe for good last month, 73-year-old Edward Zahn found several wooden boxes of cheddar cheese buried in the back of his walk-in cooler. Experts say Zahn's overlooked cheddar is likely the oldest collection of cheese ever assembled and sold to the public.
After hearing about the discovery, Ken McNulty, president of Wisconsin Cheese Mart, bought the 40-year-old cheese sight unseen. McNulty plans to feature it in a cheese tasting event at his store in downtown Milwaukee October 6. The State Journal says McNulty plans to sell the unique cheese by the ounce, so more people can try it.
