Kong Vue pleads guilty to reckless homicide in Hougom case

LA CROSSE, WI (WXOW)—The second man accused in the shooting death of 20-year-old Sarah Hougom accepted a plea deal on Thursday.

Kong Vue pled guilty to First Degree Reckless Homicide as Party to the Crime.

Judge Bjerke asked Kong Vue to say in his own words what he did on March 26th that would make him guilty of this offence.

"I went into her house and went for her purse and I shot her on accident," Kong Vue said.

"You had the gun in your hand?" Judge Bjerke said.

"Yeah," Kong Vue said.

"You actually shot Ms. Hougom?" Judge Bjerke said.

"Yeah," Kong Vue said.

"And as a result then she died?" Judge Bjerke said.

"Yeah," Kong Vue said.

Ellen Rassmussen, Pastor, Wesley United Methodist Church said the Hougom family is feeling deep grief at this time from hearing someone acknowledge killing their child.

"At this time the family is not feeling relief," Rassmussen said. "It feels like things are still on going and they're wondering if it will ever end."

In May, a judge entered a not guilty plea for Kong Vue.

At that time, police said that Vue admitted to them he entered Hougom's apartment last March and panicked when he saw someone on the couch.

According to police, Kong Vue told them he fired two shots.

On August, 15, Pao Choua Vue pled guilty to first degree reckless homicide.

Sentencing for both men has tentatively scheduled for November 5, at 9 a.m.

Kong Vue could be sentenced to a maximum of 40 years in prison with 20 years extended supervision.
