Viterbo hires men's soccer coach

La Crosse, Wis. – Viterbo University athletics director Barry Fried announced today that Greg Saliaras has been named the V-Hawks interim Head Men's Soccer Coach for the 2012 season.
 
"This is a very exciting day for me and I am really looking forward to the new challenge," commented Saliaras. "Viterbo men's soccer has a great history and I look forward to being a part of that history and expanding it."
 
"We are fortunate to get someone with Greg's knowledge and experience," stated Fried. "His background as a player and coach at all levels will be invaluable to our young men."
 
Saliaras comes to Viterbo University from Eau Claire, Wis. where he currently is the general manager and head coach for the EC Aris Football Club which plays in the National Premier Soccer League. He also is the Director of Coaching for the Aris Football Academy in Eau Claire where he provides year around training for boys and girls of all ages. These experiences add to Saliaras 35 years of playing and coaching opportunities at all levels.
 
"I have been very fortunate to have a lot of great soccer experiences in my life and really feel this will be a great opportunity for both me and the program to grow," commented Saliaras. "I am really eager to work with the young players through the sport of soccer to help them reach their goals."
 
 
Saliaras began his playing career in his native hometown of Halastra, Thessaloniki, Greece as a young child. His playing career included a stint playing as a semi-pro in Greece before coming to the United States and playing college soccer at Concordia St. Paul. His soccer experiences also include a two year stint as the head coach for the UW-Eau Claire men's club team, a youth club coach and referee.
