WWII vet gets replacements for lost medals

A World War II veteran from Wisconsin today got something back he thought he'd lost forever.

The medals Doug Ward earned during his service were replaced, in a ceremony at the 26th annual fly-in at Doug's Log Cabin Airport, in Mondovi.

Ward served in the Army from 1942 till the end of the war and earned eight service medals for his time as a B-17 gunner.

But at some point he misplaced the medals, including the Distinguished Flying Cross, World War II Victory Medal and the American Campaign Medal.

"This is where all my friends are today, now you can see the gathering here," said Doug Ward. "It's quite a tribute they paid to me I think today, to show up.

Many of Doug's family and fellow veterans were on hand for Sunday's ceremony.
