UW-L seeking more on defense

Posted:

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - There's no rest for the weary, even on labor day. After a big win Saturday over #6 North Central College, UW-L is already hard at work preparing to face Northern Michigan on Thursday.

Head Coach Joel Dettwiler seemed in good spirits about the short week on Monday. He quipped that if you don't slow down, you can't get tired.

Yet, despite taking the ball away from the Cardinals six times on Saturday, Dettwiler said he's still looking for his defense to step it up a bit.

"it was a good defensive effort, turnover-wise, but it wasn't the best effort from a technique standpoint," Dettwiler said. "Just brushing-up, getting the rust off in terms of the first-game blues. Those types of stuff are things we've got to fix."

Eagles Linebacker Jack Leahy added, "[We need to] fix up some scheme stuff, make sure we're a lot more clean-cut and even pursuing harder--just that pursuit, that relentlessness that we need to get the W."

UW-L plays at Northern Michigan on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. (6:00 p.m. Central).
