LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Summer is "officially" over as area children come back inside to the classroom Tuesday morning.
The scene of parents dropping kids off at the front of schools or buses unloading was played out at schools in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
In La Crosse, a number of parents walked with their children to Hamilton Elementary on the south side. Before classes, the new students got breakfast at the start of the day. Parents were treated to a cup of coffee as a welcome.
As the class day began, kindergartners went through orientation as they start their educational career.
The start of classes was new for a number of teachers, too. Student teachers from nearby Viterbo University began their new careers Tuesday morning.
Parents also took plenty of photos of their children on this first day of school. Take a look at some of them in the upper corner of this story.

Thank you to all the parents who contributed photos for our Back-To-School Gallery.
