MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- Five people have been hospitalized in southeastern Wisconsin with probable West Nile virus, according to public health officials. Three of the cases are in Milwaukee County and two in Waukesha County.
Last month, one case was confirmed in Dodge County, that person was recovering after being hospitalized. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports another person in Dane County likely has the virus.
The number of reported West Nile virus cases across the United States have increased this year. The virus is spread by infected mosquitoes. Less than one percent of people with the virus get seriously ill.
