La Crosse firefighters stand up to breast cancer

Posted:

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Members of the La Crosse fire department are doing their part to support breast cancer research.

Thursday afternoon they launched a T-shirt sale in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

These shirts will be sold to the public. All proceeds will be donated to Gundersen Lutheran to fund breast Cancer research.

"It brings me back to what I would call ‘those terrible days' in January, February, March, April and May where my mother was fighting breast cancer," said Fire Chief Gregg Cleveland. "Had we only had the research that was available today back then, maybe the outcome would have been different."

Cleveland's mother lost the battle in May 1983.

People can purchase these pink shirts at the Steppin' Out in Pink walk this Saturday at Gundersen Lutheran, at Fire Station #3's open house on Oct. 6 or at Fire Station #1 during business hours.

Firefighters will be wearing the pink T-shirts every Friday in October.
