Marshfield police say a 20-year-old Marshfield man is in custody in connection with the death of 18-year-old Maisie McCullough of Marshfield. He is being held at the Wood County jail.
Authorities say there are no other suspects in this case. According to a police report, the father of McCullough's 2-year-old son was taken into custody as a "person of interest" in the case.
They say he was located around 4:22 a.m. Saturday morning at a Wisconsin Rapids motel.
Authorities had sent out an alert earlier that morning searching for McCullough's 2-year-old son who was missing from her residence when they arrived on scene. The alert said the child could be with his father, Gabriel Luis Campos.
Police say the child was also found at the motel unharmed and is now with family.
The Wood County Deputy Coroner confirmed to Newsline 9 on Saturday that Maisie McCullough died Friday night after her throat was slit and she was stabbed in the back.
The Marshfield Police Department is investigating the incident. They say the 18-year-old was found dead in a residence in the 1300 Block of E. Blodgett Street in Marshfield.
They say she was found shortly after 10 p.m. Friday night.
The Wisconsin Crime Laboratory and the Wisconsin State Patrol are helping with the investigation. Authorities are now waiting for results from a toxicology report, but the deputy coroner says he does not suspect drugs or alcohol were involved in her death. Toxicology results should be available within three weeks.
