Walk raises awareness about suicide

Posted:

LA CROSSE, WI (WXOW)—In 2012, so far 10 people have lost their lives due to suicide in La Crosse.

To help combat the problem, La Crosse Area Suicide Prevention Initiative hosted an informational walk at Riverside Park earlier this evening.

The goal of the event is to raise awareness and get people talking about the issue of suicide rather because that's one of the best ways to prevent it.

"We want to talk about the fact that the more we speak about it," Matt Strittmater, La Crosse Area Suicide Prevention Initiative Member said. "And recognize that many, many people have these thoughts the more we can link them to help, bridge some of the stigma and maybe reduce numbers locally."

On Thursday, the group is hosting a conference on suicide prevention at the La Crosse Center from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. if you're interested in attending you can register at the door.
