CALEDONIA, Minnesota (WXOW) There is an update on the drag racing incident at the airport in Caledonia, Minnesota involving two law enforcement officers.
Through an e-mail, Houston County Sheriff Doug Ely confirms the incident happened July 12, and says a Houston County deputy sheriff was involved.
As News 19 first reported, a Caledonia police officer received a 28 day suspension as a result of the incident. He is now back at work.
Ely says the event involved one trip down and back on the runway after which the officers left. The deputy was not formally disciplined, but the incident was handled internally as an employee coaching session.
Since there was no formal discipline, Ely says he's not releasing the deputy's name.
He says the deputy admitted his involvement, was remorseful, apologetic and truthful. Sheriff Ely says the deputy involved has a stellar work history without any past complaints or disciplinary reports.
