LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Summer is almost gone and the Salvation Army is wasting no time getting ready for one of their biggest seasons.
They have started signing people up for shifts ringing bells this holiday season. With over 4000 shifts to fill, it is never too early to start signing people up. Golden bell ringers are people who rang for 10 shifts or more last year. Those ringers started signing up in August. Some groups have signed up as well and now individuals are being encouraged to sign up for their favorite shifts. Shifts are two hours long and start November 16th. There are 22 sites including a new one this year, Quillins on Sky Harbour Drive.
Salvation Army Development Director, Julie Nelson said, "We really need as many people as possible to get out and ring bells. An un staffed kettle will get maybe eight dollars if it does really well. A staffed kettle can get 500 if its doing really really well."
Nearly 250 shifts have been filled already. If you want to sign up just go to: www.bells2ring.org
