LA CROSSE, WI (WXOW)—The City Council approved a new city sign ordinance Thursday.
The council approved the version passed by the Committee of the Whole on Tuesday.
The ordinance requires most on-premise signs in the city to be 14 feet or shorter.
Signs outside businesses would also have to be built in monuments rather than supported by poles.
Business owners can request an exemption.
It passed by a 14 to 3 vote Thursday night; however, members must still make some minor modifications to address special rules for commercial interstate zones, clarify use of poles, and fuel pricing signs.
