Healing through fishing

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - It is the first Midwest fishing retreat for men who survived cancer.

The group Reel Recovery provided 13 men coping with cancer from Wisconsin, Iowa, and northern Illinois a chance to fly fish.

One of the organizers says the purpose is to provide a fun experience, but mostly a supportive environment for the men.

Group Leader Mike Fidler says the program offers a way to gain strength, courage, and support from their experiences.

The group had a good day at Pettibone Lagoon, where they caught panfish and bass.

Reel Recovery holds retreats nationwide for men recovering from cancer.
