OSHKOSH, Wisconsin (WXOW) - UW-La Crosse football got its first taste of the a WIAC opponent Saturday in a non-conference, cross-state match-up. UW-Oshkosh entered the day 1-0 on the season having put up 47 points against Iowa's Central College in their opener.
The Eagles, though had already proven they won't back down from tough competition, and they didn't on Saturday. UW-L struck first on a Ben Hertrampf two-yard touchdown run to take a 7-0 lead.
Oshkosh would chip away at that lead through the third. Nate Ray hit field goals of 28, 27 and 39 yards to put the Titans on top 9-7 entering the fourth quarter.
Looking to add to that lead, instead Oshkosh QB Nate Wara threw an interception to Jacob Flegner. He went 30 yards on the return, but La Crosse couldn't capitalize on the mistake. The Titans found the endzone once more on a Cole Myhra touchdown run.
Oshkosh hung on to win 16-7. They improve to 2-0 on the year. The loss means UW-L's record stands at 1-2.
