TOMAH, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The story in Mississippi Valley Conference girls golf this year has been the Tomah Timberwolves.
Dana Wagner topped the standings as an individual entering Monday's final conference meet, while the team was perfect through five of the six conference meets.
It was fitting then, that the final conference meet was on Tomah's home turf on blustery day out at Hiawatha Golf Course.
That affected some of the scores, but Sparta's Sydney Weibel finished strong. She dropped in a pair of pars on eight and nine to finish tied for fourth with a 43.
Just ahead of her in the standings would be Holmen's Courtney Bergum. The sophomore would settle for a par after reaching the par five ninth green in two. Bergum's 40 would give her a third place finish.
Wagner came in two strokes ahead of her. The Tomah senior started even-par through seven holes, but finished bogey-bogey to shoot a two-over 38. Wagner took second only to teammate Danielle Ducklow. The junior's even-par round of 36 earned her top honors.
"The first hole I started off with an eagle, so that was a lot of confidence going into the next eight holes," Ducklow said. "I just tried to play through the weather and get done as fast as possible."
In the team result it was Tomah completing the conference sweep with a team score of 160. Holmen took second with a 181, while Onalaska's 191 would be good enough for third.
