LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The Oktoberfest Maple Leaf Parade is meant to be fun for the whole family, but some feel that it has become less than friendly in recent years.
This led to last year's Family Zone on the parade route. The Family Zone was meant to give families and others a safe place to enjoy the parade without having to deal with the alcohol infused party that consumes the rest of the parade route. The idea was so popular last year that they are hoping to double the number of participants in the zone this year.
Rachael Garbers, Chair of the Family Zone, said "We are no longer requiring wristbands, which will make it more convenient for everybody to come. And you don't have to have kids to come. Come on down and enjoy the parade in an alcohol free zone."
There will also be games for the kids and food for sale presented by UWL Physical Education majors.
