Landfill adds walking trail

Posted:

LA CROSSE, WI (WXOW)—There's a new walking trail in La Crosse County at the landfill.

The half mile trail is made from recycled shingles and the base of the trail is made of recycled concrete.

Recycling those materials in the trail saved the people in the county $400,000 they would paid to dispose of it.

The landfill hopes community members and people working in the industrial park near the landfill take advantage of the new trail.

"The best thing about our business is we want to be transparent in government so having a walking trail allows people to take a direct look," Henry Koch, Director La Crosse County Solid Waste System said. "They can give us the sniff test and see if it meets their approval. We think it will."

Over the next decade, they'll add to the walking trail eventually circling the land fill and forest area surrounding it.
