Ryan rips Obama on jobs, 'redistribution' claim

DANVILLE, Va. (AP) -- Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan for a second day in a row is attacking President Barack Obama's stewardship of the economy, as the Republican campaign looks to play turnabout on inconvenient recorded statements from the candidates' pasts.

Ryan spoke today to hundreds of supporters under cloudy skies outside a two-acre machine shop near Danville, Virginia. The city's once-bustling textile and tobacco economy has been devastated the past 20 years.

He noted coal mine closures announced yesterday by Alpha Natural Resources and blamed it on Obama energy policies the same day Mitt Romney's campaign began airing a Virginia ad attacking what it called Obama's "War on Coal."

The campaign also began touting audio of Obama remarks from 1998 in which he said he believed in wealth redistribution.
