Oktoberfest Medallion found at Houska Park

LA CROSSE, WI (WXOW)—Twenty-year-old, Emily Manske of Chaseburg, WI, found the 2012 Oktoberfest Medallion Thursday morning around 10:30, under the bridge, near the entrance to Houska Park.

Emily has been searching for the medallion daily and has been using the clues as her guide.

She had previously been searching with her boyfriend, but he had to work on Thursday so she continued the hunt alone.

This was her first year searching for the medallion and said it must be beginners luck.

She said it was the fourth clue that really helped her because she looked up the names of the people in the clue and figured out it had something to do with lumber.

"I was so psyched," Manske said. "There was a guy standing above me on the bridge so I was doing it really quietly moving around the leaves with a stick and then I just put it in my pocket and walked away so he wouldn't see."

Manske was wearing the Oktoberfest button and will collect the entire prize package, which includes $500 cash, two tickets to the Festmaster's Ball, several gift certificates, and a miniature replica medallion.

For the last 16 years the same person has been writing the medallion hunt clues.

That person is the only one who knows where the medallion is hidden.

Oktoberfest staff don't know where its hidden or who is writing the clues because they communicate through email.
