SPARTA, Wisconsin (WXOW) - There's new information about Tuesday's fatal car fire in the Township of Ridgeville.
The Monroe County Sheriff tells News 19 that the passerby, who alerted the fire department about the burning car, reported a license plate number to a firefighter.
Authorities contacted the registered owner of the car in Minnesota.
The sheriff said the owner did not report the car as stolen.
The department has not reported the identity of the body found in the burning car.
The body is at the state crime lab in Madison for testing.
Investigators at the scene could not tell if it was a man or a woman.
The fire happened Tuesday morning near a radio tower where County Highway T meets County Highway A.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
