LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Week five of the prep football season meant some teams could start thinking toward the playoffs. Two of them, Central and Onalaska, met Friday night at Veterans Memorial Sports Complex.
The Red Raiders pleased their Homecoming royalty by jumping out to a 20-0 lead before Onalaska's Clint Rihn tried to play the spoiler by intercepting a pass and returning it to the Central 28 yard line. Onalaska would be unable to capitalize, instead going three and out.
Central then exacted some revenge before time expired on the first half. The Red Raiders marched it down to the Hilltopper seven yard line, and gave the ball to Clay Gale to do the rest. Central led 26-0 at halftime.
The second half would prove to be much the same. The Red Raiders got scores from Max Hether and Hayden Halverson to put a whopping 42 points on the board. Onalaska's only score came on a 90 yard kickoff return by Gabe Flood. It wouldn't be enough. Central amassed 550 rushing yards and won big on their return to La Crosse, 42-6.
The Red Raiders improve to 5-0 on the season, with a 3-0 conference record. Onalaska drops to 2-3 on the year (2-2 MVC).
